The Critical Importance of a Biblical View of the Trinity
Oct 10th, 2008 by Sam
A few weeks ago, we had a class on the Trinity for Bible Doctrine. I think I can speak for those in attendance that this was perhaps one of the most important classes we have had in our BIble Doctrine class. My only regret is that I wish more people were there to understand how significant a biblical view of the Trinity is to the spiritual lives of Christians. Virtually every cult attacks the Trinity in some fashion. Biblical roles of men and women flow from the Trinity. Our view of Jesus, the Spirit, and the Father are obviously impacted by our view of the Triune God.
Well, at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Wayne Grudem and Bruce Ware debated professors Tom McCall and Keith Yandell. As important as the presidential debates are, this is even more important because its impact is eternal. I would strongly recommend reading the liveblog and some commentary on it. But just like the days of the Councils of Nicaea and Chalcedon, we are seeing the same arguments rehashed, arguments against an orthodox view of the Trinity that Athanasius so deftly and diligently refuted. So much is at stake. I hope people don’t think this is merely an ivory tower conversation. Over 350 people filled that chapel. The debate was also webcasted. This is definitely worth a look and a study.
