I might not agree with Rick Warren on everything, but do I believe He loves the Lord and wants to advance the Kingdom of God? YES. Do I believe that every way and every theological thought of his is what I believe? NO. Can I still respect him and the ministry of Saddleback, at least some portion of it? YES. Do I agree wholeheartedly with the methodology and philosophy of his PEACE plan? NO. Do I think his plan can make a difference and honor God at some level? YES.
All this to say that Rick Warren is a brother in Christ who loves the Lord. I believe that not only will I see him in glory one day, but he will be far closer to the throne of Christ than I am, as George Whitefield often said about his good friend, John Wesley (who by the way, was an Arminian whereas Whitefield a Calvinist). I’ll have the nosebleed Bob Uchre seats, that’s for sure.
Any way, here’s an interesting article regarding Rick Warren. I like the first question and answer:
Why don’t you wear Hawaiian shirts any more?
I threw them all away. It started becoming a shtick. Every time I’d read a newspaper [it would] say: “Rick Warren, the Hawaiian-shirted preacher.” I wasn’t making a fashion statement out of this. I dress for comfort. I haven’t worn a Hawaiian shirt in two years. I don’t even own one.
