When Music Becomes Old or Great Over Many Listens

Bob Kauflin reflects on this phenomenon. It is definitely true and definitely worth the read. I’m in agreement. I think lyrical content with style usually makes this happen. There were some songs that I used to love to sing in worship, but now it can sound like scratches on a chalkboard, not because the melody is bad, but because the words are terrible. And there are definitely songs that I didn’t like at first, but when it is played in worship, I think, “Wow, that really is a good song. How come I didn’t see it.” And usually, just seeing the richness of words on screen really seems to make the song better.
