Whole Book Memory, First Philippians
Jul 10th, 2008 by Sam
If sound doctrine really does matter, then Bible memorization defintely matters. I have battled Scripture memory for so long. I believe in it. I endorse it. But I have had such a hart time memorizing. What are the struggles?
1. Laziness, 2. Inconsistency, 3. Excuses, 4. Unbelief
I am tempted to say that as I get older, I have a harder time with memory rentetion. And while this might be the case, I really do think this is merely an age-old excuse.
Well, if I really want to see sound doctrine lived out and applied not just in my church but as well in my own life, then I need to memorize the Bible. So I have decided to call on people to memorize the book of Philippians with me using Andy Davis’ An Approach to Extended Memorization of Scripture. You can check out this blog for some more info on Scripture memory. So anyone interested, post here that you’ll be joining me. I couldn’t imagine the revival that would take place over many people actively memorizing the Bible.
May sound doctrine lead to an outpouring of God’s grace!

I definitely see merit in knowing your bible and this is a good way to do that. My concern/warning is that many people will treat this as just another “works” to establish their christian identity rather than finding their identity in Christ. That said, we would all do well to memorize the bible.
I’m curious why you choose Philippians for your memory book.
