More Decision-Making Wisdom from J. I. Packer
Jun 27th, 2008 by Sam
In Guide Us, Lead Us, J. I. Packer writes:
We shall make the discernment, says Paul, by testing–that is envisaging and weighing alternatives, and not letting the merely good become the enemy of the best.
And he is so right. There are many good decisions that we make in life: education choices, family choices, job choices, entertainment choices, church choices, that are not sinful decisions. They can even be good decisions. But sometimes good decisions can be the enemy of the best decisions. And discernment and wisdom, as J. I. notes, is the ability to figure out which is good and which is best. And biblical wisdom is basing our discernment of what is good or best on the solid rock authority of Scripture.
