One Hundred Pushups
Jun 18th, 2008 by Sam
I went to the doctor not to long ago and took a blood test as part of my physical. The results came back and I found out my cholesterol was high. Before the physical, I hadn’t done any exercise in over six months and realized I was considerably out of shape. So I decided to jog, bike, and other things. Those other things included pushups. I remember a while back hearing that Herschel Walker had never lifted weights but had done something along the lines of 100,000 pushups in one year. And I figured what was good for Herschel is good enough for me.
So I began my first set of pushups, 1-2-3-4-5-6-777-88888-9999999-flat on my face! I couldn’t even do 10! Well, I’ve got that now up to 50. And I’m still lumbering but I’ve seen improvement, however, now my shoulder hurts! But finding this website has given me a goal–100 pushups! Just wondering if there is anyone out there who wants to join me. I’ll keep you posted as to what number I’m up to.

Hi Sam,
Great idea. I hurt my knee jogging a few weeks ago and am actually going to the doctor tomorrow to get it checked out and have been frustrated at my lack of being able to walk or jog like I did before the injury. As far as push ups go I dont think I could do two let alone ten right now but this sounds like a great thing to set as a goal and seems like a good plan to build on. I will join with you and keep you posted on my progess.
Sounds interesting, I may have to join you. I recently set a modest goal for myself of doing sit-ups. Five in the morning and five in the evening. Not impressive but given my size it’s more of a challenge than you’d imagine. Of course, the goal is not to do a lot, but rather build up my stamina. So five will turn into ten, ten will turn into twenty…

Wow, Sam, that takes commitment. I’ve decided to join you, with your goal, that is. I’m fifteen years old, sort of slim (only 148 pounds, and 5′9-ish), and I want to get as muscular as my friend Tony, who is only 119 pounds, but looks built like a tank. He only does pushups, and other natural exercises, so I decided to do it too. I’ll try to go to sleep early today, and attempt to do 1000 pushups (Not straight, of course), and 1000 situps, and sprint a mile in the morning. Then, before I go to sleep, I’ll attempt to do 1000 pushups, and 1000 situps. I’ll try to do 25 a set. Then increase it by five every week until I reach 100. I better go to sleep by 9:00-10:00 p.m. today…
(And hey, Herschel Walker just decided one day to do 2500 situps, and 1500 pushups one day, so why can’t I?)
