Embarrassing Moments leading Worship

Bob Kauflin has a great post on Worship Leaders who have had embarrassing moments leading worship. Phew, am I glad I am not the only one!
Here is mine. I didn’t submit it, but I leave it for you the reader:
The first time I led worship, it was at a college student lock-in retreat. I had essentially just learned how to play a guitar and had never played in front of anyone else before. On top of that, I was absolutely musically illiterate. So I had always assumed that the way I played and sang was the rhythm that everyone else played and sang. Well, there was a band accompanying me, and I began playing and singing this song. Slowly as I started singing the song, the band began to stop playing. Because my rhythm was so off they couldn’t play and so they decided to stop playing. In looking out, people who were clapping and singing began to stop singing and clapping because I was so horribly off. I could see their confused faces. My heart was beating rapidly. I was sweating profusely. But despite all of this, I sang through the whole song, all the verses by myself.
Needless to say, this almost derailed my worship leading for life. But God continues to bring me back to it every time I say, “This is the last time I’m going to lead worship through song.” I think he wants to continue to humble me. Oh the a-rhythmic amongst us.
