Who Needs to Go to Church Anyway?

David Wells posts on George Barna’s poll to ‘Christians’ about alternatives to the local church. In other words, these are people who call themselves Christians but don’t believe the local church is a necessity to faith. Here are their alternatives that they found biblically acceptable (the parentheses show the % of people polled who believed these were legitimate ALTERNATIVES to attending a local church):
-worship at home (89%),
-active in house church (75%),
-watching religious TV (69%),
-radio broadcast (68%),
-special ministry event (68%),
-and participating in a marketplace ministry (54%).
-interacting with a religious website (45%)
-and engaging in spiritual activity on the internet (42%).

Those are some disturbing numbers. I could see where someone might feel a couple of those options are sufficient but how does one “engage in spiritual activity on the internet”?
