Not an ESV Salesman, But…

I’ve been endorsing the ESV since it first came out. Some might think I work for Crossway because of my hearty endorsements. Well, I don’t, but I do appreciate a literal translation that flows with style, and the ESV does that. I never gave up the NIV for the NASB simply because the NASB was so wooden that it was difficult to enjoy. The NIV is still a good translation, but its dynamic equivalence (translating words loosely) can be obstructive to Bible study. Hence, the ESV really does do the best job.
Denny Burk has a great article on Bible translations and where most popular translations fit on the dynamic equivalence spectrum. It should help any reader (and purchaser) of a Bible.
