Losing All Things to a Fire

This reporter covers the destruction of his own home by the fires. In watching this video, I couldn’t help but think of Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:19-20: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Sadly, this world and all of its treasures are fleeting, easily licked up by fires. But to know that there is a God who is faithful and eternal, who will never leave you nor forsake you, is a word of comfort for all who mourn, even as one loses everything he owns.
In listening to Mark Lauterbach report on the fires, I rejoice that his perspective is that God’s renown will be made known even through Mark’s and Grace Church’s own troubled times. I have a feeling, this prayer request will be answered.
