When Well-Meaning Posts Go Awry
Sep 13th, 2007 by admin
As Archshrk pointed out, it seems that email was an urban legend. And honestly speaking, I actually thought it might be. I’ve been offered by Bill Gates millions of dollars, been told Proctor and Gamble works for the devil, etc., all through emails. And usually they have a certain look about them so I thought this was the case as well with the plastics email. And Luke has this great link that refutes this email.
However, I still think from a common sense perspective, having plastics cooked and then ingested through our food certainly can’t be a good thing. So I decided even though the email might be phony, the warning is probably still valid. And as the urban legends reference points to Dr. Rolf Halden of John Hopkins who says: “Inert containers are best; for example heat-resistant glass, ceramics, and good old stainless steel.” This is something that I think is wise advice to be heeded.

I agree. I avoid using plastics in the microwave because of the way it makes things taste. Same with drinking from plastic cups. Just doesn’t seem right.
i am sending you and your family sigg bottles for christmas.
i threw almost all my plastics out this weekend. #7 recycle code plastics do leak BSA. those are the nalgene bottles, and any polycarbonate bottles (you know the hard kind of plastic) also know as lexan. do not microwave them, microwave safe doesn’t mean not leaching, it just means it won’t melt!
i saw this link u forwarded, but i am skeptical about the claim that plastics don’t leach from all the research i did.
