The Future of Dying Churches?
Jun 28th, 2007 by admin

Is there a more sad picture than this one? Church Matters Blog posted this and it is almost surreal. That used to be Central Baptist Church in Washington, DC. I wish I knew that history of that church. But why would they sell it to Muslims? Why wouldn’t another church be interested? This is becoming an all-too-common event, where Muslims are buying Christian churches.
My motehr-in-law was telling me the story about her church. The church meets in an old warehouse currently and they have bought some land to build. Thus, they are in need of a buyer for their warehouse-church. A Muslim school tried to buy the church, but the church turned them down because they were Muslim. Well, this did not stop the Muslims. They were so persistent that somehow they were able to disguise their identity (I have no idea how) and use a bakery as a front to buy the church. The purchase went through and the church didn’t find out it was the same group until they read about it in the newspaper. But somehow, they were able to renege on the deal and get the building back. At the time, I thought my mother-in-law’s story was the exception.
I hope this is not the future of dying Christian churches. I know the only hope for dying churches is the light of the Gospel. Since most of these churches are liberal churches that have often abandoned faithfulness to the Gospel, if the Gospel is brought back to these churches, the exchange of churches to mosques hopefully will be quashed.
