A Correspondence with David Ruis
Mar 31st, 2007 by admin
So if you haven’t been following my conversation with David Ruis (author of songs such as, “Let Your Glory Fall” and “You Are Worthy of My Praise), you can follow it here.
Well, David was gracious enough to respond back and gave me permission to reprint the email. So here is his response to my apology:
Sam,
Thanks so much for your gracious reply, and your willingness to post
an apology on your blog. That really means a lot to me.I have been in much study and prayer over this issue of late, and am
very concerned about the influence that the “bridal paradigm” is
having. I have friendship with many that are taking this approach,
and it is so difficult to try and broach these issues and it not get
“nasty”. Maintaining a soft heart and yet wrestling for truth can be
quite an adventure …Regal asked me to write a book in their worship series (I have two
others published with them already) on this topic which I did, but
didn’t feel right about releasing the manuscript at this point … I
really just need to get it “right”. Even though a release date was
set, I pulled the plug on it. I may just post portions of it on my
site and see where it goes from there. The “book” directly challenges
the allegorical approach to interpretation and several other things
but the publisher still wanted to call it “Extravagant Intimacy”
which let me know they really didn’t “get” what I was trying to say
at all - that’s just a horrible title and communicates everything
that I’m “not” trying to say (if that makes sense …).Anyway - this issue is a very important one and I am really in the
“middle” of a lot of discussion and debate about it. I would really
appreciate your prayers for wisdom and clear articulation. When do
things cross the line into the place of heresy is a huge question for
me right now. I have been at the other end of church “watch dogs”
tearing me a part with nary a phone call or any process, so I
certainly don’t want to be like that in any way - but, I certainly do
want truth and a vibrancy in my faith that is anchored to biblical
certainty.
Good to know that there are people who lead people in worship who long to be “anchored to bibilical certainty.” That is really, really, good to know. Thanks David.
