Everlasting God

This past week, I have been really enjoying Chris Tomlin’s latest CD, See the Morning. There is one song called, “Everlasting God” that I have been listening to over and over again. It’s a song that recounts one of my favorite texts in all of the Bible, Isaiah 40:
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
What a beautiful picture of God’s power and His care for His people. It is soaked with the Gospel. What a treasure it is. Well, I have been trying to play it on my guitar, in particular the intro part. But then I realized in doing a search for the TAB that it wasn’t written by Mr. Tomlin. It’s by Brenton Brown (he has written some good songs too like, “All Who Are Thirsty,” “Lord, Reign in Me,” and partnered with Brian Doerksen to write, “Hallelujah/Your Love Is Amazing”). So I went to his website and he, like Brian Doerksen, offers all of his chord sheets for free on line. And even better, he has a video of himself playing, “Everlasting God,” so you can watch how he plays the chords!
The words go like this and you can download the chord sheet here:
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon you Lord x 2
Our God, you reign forever
Our hope, our strong deliverer…
You are the everlasting God, the everlasting God
You do not faint, you won’t grow weary
You’re the defender of the weak, you comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles…
And to top it off, I was reading Bob Kauflin’s blog and it looks like he’s been thinking about the same song! So should I play it for worship this Sunday or not? Does anyone have any opinions?

How do you do worship?
That is a pretty big question. I have a pretty big answer, but on the short end:
Worship is the genuine overflow of our heart in response to the Gospel. So there are many ways to worship. But specifically, to speak about worship through music and song, we worship probably in the same way Kaleo does.
I love this song!! We sing at church a lot here in NJ. Just a song of complete praise. DO IT!
