Dane Ortlund at Informational Inflammation has a post called, “Seminary Reading” where he says if he had 300 pages to assign a semiarian before going to the pastorate, he would assing the following:
* Lectures to My Students, C. H. Spurgeon (excerpts)
* The Life of God in the Soul of Man, Henry Scougal (letter to friend)
* Words to Winners of Souls, Horatius Bonar
* The Mortification of Sin, John Owen
* “The Christian Pilgrim”, Jonathan Edwards (sermon)
* A Treatise on Grace, Jonathan Edwards
* No Place for Truth, David Wells (excerpts)
NOw, I want to entitle mine, what a Seminarian should read before attending seminary:
1. Lecture to My Students, CH. H. Spurgeon
2. Brothers, We Are Not Professionals, John Piper
3. The Mortification of Sin, John Owen
4. The Deliberate Church, Mark Dever
5. The Gospel for Real Life, Jerry Bridges
6. The Religious Life of the Theological Student, B. B. Warfield
7. The Cross and Christian Ministry, D. A. Carson
8. Charity and Its Fruits, Jonathan Edwards
9. Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands, Paul Tripp

Interesting list. I’ll have to read them some time.
