East Better Than West?

Let me tell you what I loved about the East Coast more than the West Coast:
1. New York Pizza

Do not be fooled. If it says “New York Pizza out here it is a sham. Do not even think there is a such thing as NY pizza out in the West because there isn’t. I have no idea why it can’t be replicated but it just can’t.
2. Rispoli’s Bakery (Broad Avenue, Ridgefield)

I know you’re thinking, huh? But this place has THE best pastries in the world. The cream and filling is incredible. If you are EVER in Northern New Jersey, you MUST check it out and see if I am lying or exaggerating. Italians make some wonderful baked goods. Try the “Lobster Tails (not real tails, just pastries that look like them). Their cream is awesome.
3. The New York Yankees

It was wonderful to finally be in a place where I was not a fish swimming against the stream. To see so many Yankee hats, to see Jeter shirts, it was nice.
4. New York/NJ Bagels

Now those are real bagels. The ones here and elsewhere around the country, I think they should be called “faux bagels.
5. Cod Fish

Do not even think that Cod fish here in the West is cod fish. Calling rock cod COD is like calling the Yugo a top model car.
That’s all I can think of for now. But there are probably more if I thought harder.

Sam, agreed on the pizza and bagels. Yankees? I can only say remember 1960!
I agree 100% about #1. Something about pizza in NY cannot be reproduced out here….maybe it’s the smog or lack of humidity.
Now, your next entry has to be things that are better out west vs east!
I have to disagree about the pizza. I’ve supposedly eaten the *best* NY pizza on our recent trip and I must say I wasn’t impressed (the same goes for Chicago pizza)–Zachary’s on the other hand is muy delicioso!
Btw–I was told that the secret ingredient is the water.
You’re hunger has harmed your taste buds. Zachary’s is good, but it PALES in comparison to NY pizza. Besides deep dish is more like eating pizza pot pie than eating pizza. Pizza needs to ooze with cheese and then the oils drip as you fold it in half. The crust needs to be thin and crispy.
Oh and one more thing about the NY Pizza, every place has garlic powder right there. Here, no pizza place keeps it on hand. Faux pizza I say.
