Sam, Tom Ascol blogs on a recent survey that shows that 10% of SBC pastors consider themselves Calvinists. He also notes that the propensity for such doctrine is about equal with under40-over40, which would run counter to the CT bit. Check Tom's entry for 9-18 at:

Tim, love your point about how Calvinists are the divisive ones and not Arminians. Also, concerning missions and evangelism, Whitefield, Edwards Spurgeon were prolific in their evangelism. Packer's book deals with the issue. And today, there is NO better voice on Scripture's madate for missions than John Piper.

Sam, thanks for your observations. Here's a few of mine: (1) Josh Harris's negative encounters with Calvinists could as easily have been negative encounters with Arminians or charismatics or dispys or rabid pre-trib pre-millers; (2) The Mahaney-Harris mentoring relationship was key to Josh's development in doctrine and leadership; (3) If Acts 29 follows the theology of its leadership AND if Reformed=TULIP then Acts 29 isn't Reformed; (4) It is as easy to say that Armianism is divisive as it is to say that Calvinism is divisive. A key difference is that Arminians are often stuck on their traditions and Calvinists are often stuck on what scripture says; (5) Lemke, the Arminian Baptist does get it- "you know you're not that crucial" in evangelism!; (6) The key - " ...young Calvinists value
theological systems far less than God and his Word ..." - Amen! And so do middle-aged and old "Calvinists"!
