ESV Revision Coming Some Time Soon
Aug 4th, 2006 by admin

It seems as though Crossway will be releasing at some time a revision of the ESV. The reason they’re not saying much is that it will forestall people from buying this release of the ESV. Phew, I’m thankful I found this out before I bought the Journaling Bible which is very appealing to me.
For more info on this you can check out this post (comments section) or the Better Bibles Blog.

Thank you for linking to my blog. It will be interesting to see what extent they will revise the ESV.
Ah, you essentially found the same blog sources that I noted in my response on the reverse interlinear. However, I have no idea just how “soon” a revision will be published. It could be next week, or it could be 2-3 years from now. I’ve tried unsuccessfully to get a response from Crossway directly- they won’t reply to my emails on this question.
However, even if a revision is around the corner, my guess would be that they will not draw attention to this, and I doubt it would be a major overhall of the existing ESV. I doubt the ESV will receive a new name etc. To the less observant, the revision will go unnoticed, except for a copyright revision date on the inside cover. But again, ALL of this is speculation on my part (except for the fact that the committee is reviewing changes).
I wonder if they’ll be tightening those times instances.
I think Steve is probaly right–I doubt the revision will be major, and I can almost guarantee the name will not change. The ESV hasn’t been around long enough for them to change the name. Originally I was thinking it would be released this year, but I got an email back from Crossway that led me to think otherwise. They still haven’t set a date, so I think it may be next year. In other words, if you’re coveting that Journaling Bible, get it now. I’ve seen it as low as $17.99 at the WTS store.
Interesting to see what happens.

Yes, they have 40% off ESV Bibles everyday. The link to the Journaling Bible is http://www.wtsbooks.com/product-exec/product_id/4624/nm/ESV_Journaling_Bible_Original_Black_
Sorry to be so wishy washy, but there’s new evidence to suggest the ESV revision may be coming very soon. I posted about this today at http://homepage.mac.com/rmansfield/thislamp/files/20060809_truth_unchanged_changed_revised_esv.html
Official word came down today. Revised NT very soon via the interlinear, but the complete Bible won’t appear until next year. See my new post at http://homepage.mac.com/rmansfield/thislamp/files/20060811_official_word_from_crossway.html
