It seems like the ESV is just cranking “it” out. They have a new interlinear Bible due out in the Fall. For anyone interested in serious Bible Study, this is a great resource to get. You don’t even really need to know Greek. This will help you.

How could that help you if you dont know Greek? It looks like the words are just scattered with random pictograms under them to me. I guess it would make me read the text a little more slowly… haha.

FYI, if yo uthink of purchasing this when it comes out, you might want to check Amazon out first. The Journal Bible is almost 50% cheaper there. Check it out here

I know it seems liek that, that you can’t read it, but trust me, you can if you try. It’s not that hard. Also, I agree with Frank, you’ll want to buy through Amazon.

Does anyone know if or when Crossway will be releasing a revision to its ESV translation? I understand from other blogs that something of this sort is in the works, but can’t get any “official” information from Crossway. They probably don’t want to discuss it for fear of losing sales right now. But I hate to invest in any new editions if a revision is right around the corner.

Wow, I did not know that Steve. Really? Hmmm…I wonder why Crossway would be releasing a revision so soon after its initial release unless there were errors. Can you list some of the links that even hints at this?

If anyone can discover additional information, I’d love to know about it. I also emailed a company from the UK (Allan’s) that prints beautifully bound ESV’s, and asked them if their next print run of the ESV would incorporate the revisions. No response. Hmmm. However, if anyone out there wants the most beautifully bound (Goatskin) ESV, these people produce the finest I’ve ever laid hands on. Hey Steve,

I’ve been in touch with RL Allan plenty. They informed me that their next print of ESVs (this May) would NOT be with the new revisions.

This is fine by me though, as I am not a fan of all of the changes.

Michael, I’ve pestered RL Allan for some time for a difinitive answer on this, and they could never give me one. By the way, do you or others know where there’s extensive documentation of what changes have been made? Are you disappointed in the changes for a particular reason?

Steve,

Nicholas Gray (director at RL Allan) was the one who let me know that this printing wouldn’t include the revisions. Keep in mind though that the updates are very few and mostly minor.

As far as an example of what I don’t care for:

2001 ESV reads

1John 3:24 Whoever keeps his commandments abides in him, and he in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

2007 ESV reads

1John 3:24 Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

This is dynamic equivalence 101. The Greek does not warrant using the actual word ‘God’. In this case (thankfully) it doesn’t destroy the meaning, but it breaks the rule of attempting an essentially literal translation.

BTW, the publishers of the ESV are refusing to release a list of the revisions. If you do some looking though you can find some here and there on the web. Check out
