Brian Chin: Update 2
Jul 21st, 2006 by admin
Last night Shua and I went to our cousin Royce’s place. There are a few further revelations and developments to report. First and foremost, Yahoo has discontinued the email address that Royce set up for Brian at royce.chin at yahoo.com! They assumed he was spamming people because he was obviously sending out emails to a wide swath of people at the same time. Furthermore, what makes this situation so difficult is that Yahoo does not have a customer service phone number any where to rectify this situation. If you know of how we can contact Yahoo, please let me know. But thankfully, the paypal account that was linked to this email is still able to receive funding. So royce.chin at yahoo.com can still receive paypal donations as of now. However, if you wish to send your memories or thoughts for Brian’s family, you can now email:
fbobrianchin at gmail . com [‘fbo’ stands for ‘for the benefit of’]
Second, I was also able to find out that while Brian was not part of any gangs, he was definitely attacked by a Korean gang. Because of the ongoing investigation, I can’t go into any details, but his attackers were a group of brash and brazen 18-22 year old thugs with no semblance of any desire for compassion. Hopefully, they will be rounded up by the police.
Third, and this is the most gut-wrenching part of all, Brian was stabbed over 16 times! I thought it was only 16, but the doctor’s first glance at him was one of shock as it seemed was a baseline. Also, when Brian’s friend went to him as he lay on the ground in a pool of blood, he was still alive and gasping for air. He was incoherent but still conscious. And so it is pretty obvious that his pain at that moment was tremendous. Even when he finally arrived to the hospital, he was still alive but barely. So the last days of Brian’s life were in terrible pain and agony.
Fourth, Brian’s funeral and burial will probably cost about $20,000 when all is done and $10,000 of it needs to be paid at the time of the funeral. His family had just buried their father only a few months ago. Also, they are a pastor’s family and so their financial need is quite great, alongside the fact that Brian left behind Jayden, and infant son. Please spread this story around the Internet to friends. Even the smallest of contributions would make a difference.
Fifth, please pray for Brian’s funeral to be able to take place on the weekend of July 28-29. His body is still at the coroner’s office and since there was a rash of homicides the day he died, they have yet to look at his body which went in this past Sunday. The family is really hoping for that weekend to be the funeral.
Once again, I am thankful that the Lord was gracious to Brian. The reality of his trust in Christ at the end of his life, gives his family hope and assurance of God’s ultimate goodness and His perfect justice, whether it be in this life or the life to come.

[...] Update 2 [...]
I grew up with Brian in the church when we were younger and never really got to know him, but periodically bumped into him because my husband was good friends with him. I’ve spent the last couple hours hearing from Peter, my husband, the so many ways Brian was influential to him and others through his loyalty, understanding and commitment to serving the church and his mom. Before talking to Peter I realized that I had been judging Brian on a small chapter of his life, or what I had assumed of the life he was leading, when in fact the last chapter of his life was so beautiful and pleasing to God. He was a sinner, the same way we all are. His mom had told Peter that when she looked dazed or sad (remembering her husband) Brian would lift her up by asking her if she wanted to go see a movie with her. He cooked for her so much that she had forgotten where things were in the kitchen, and rented so many Korean dramas that she couldn’t catch up. And once when her church sent this postcard saying they needed babysitters for church, he said he would go for his mom. When the day came for him to babysit, she saw him go downstairs with a big tv in his hands, and she asked what he was doing. Brian said it was for the kids… his mom then informed him that the church had a tv, but Brian was persistent in bringing it in case the tv didn’t work. He had also carried with him bags of snacks that he bought for the kids. Kids he didn’t even know. Another thing that Ms. Chin shared was that she found 3 bibles in a bag. Brian intended to give the bibles to his younger brother Danny (he had already given it to him), a friend in jail, and another friend. I was so moved to hear all these things about Brian and I’m more convicted of God’s presence, power and existance.
