Presidents and 4-Letter Words
Jul 17th, 2006 by admin
Here is a quote from our President from Fox News:
“See the irony is that what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s…. and it’s over…”
This is not a judgment on President Bush’s faith in Christ, but I must say that it certainly is a statement of how political Evangelicals so quickly paint Mr. Bush as “one of theirs.” Sure, I do not know if Mr. Bush’s faith is true or not. Only the Lord knows that. I also know that Christians are sinners and so to say an expletive does not necessarily mean that a person does NOT trust in the Lord. Perhaps the Christian who never speaks one utterance of an expletive is the person who is also continuously angry, or envious, etc. We are all sinners saved by grace alone through faith. But let’s not turn George Bush into the Evangelical saint because his SOME of his policies have a biblical worldview. This is why a political alliance based on faith is terribly dangerous to the core Gospel itself. The Gospel takes strong positions based on faith, even in the midst of turmoil. In other words, Christians were persecuted for hundreds of years when they could have simply denied Christ for expediency’s sake calked up to a future political strategy to take over Rome. No, they trusted in God’s timing and sovereignty, despite everything that occured for them.

I don’t condone or defend Mr Bush for his speech. But his speech is not any different from athletes, rappers, as well as the decidely religious and irreligious. This should be a dog-bites-man story.
