God Is Definitely, Positively a Mavs Fan

If you don’t believe me, ask Pastor David Smith of Destiny Church. It’s the only way to bring life and unity into the church, is to make sure your church prays for the home team:
Mr. Smith, a veteran preacher and self-proclaimed Mavs fanatic, is a season ticket holder who plans to attend Game 6 on Tuesday.
“We put God in a box. Why can’t we bring life into the house of worship?” he said of the idea for Sunday’s service.
“More people will come to church if you have these kinds of things.”
I think I need to watch more basketball for sermon inspiration:
“All you have to do is watch a ball game, and I feel five sermons coming on,” Mr. Smith said.
And who needs praise when you can sing like they sing at the end of their worship:
As Mr. Jackson and others file out of the sanctuary, they leave to a familiar tune.
“Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye.”
Going to an Evangelical church without wisdom these days can do serious harm to your spiritual health. We need more doctrine, not less.
- Long Sermon=Boring Sermon=Should Be Shorter Sermons?
- Violent Christianity
- The Preacher or the Plaigerer?
- Sound Doctrine
- More Basketball Pics…

Yeah, Sam, looks like you need to trade in your futbol cleats for some Converse hightops and start dribbling with your hands and not your feet. That’s the ticket!
Seriously, this story is one of those that you are praying when you get to the end it will say “April Fool”. Sadly, truth is turning out to be stranger than fiction. This is the stuff that makes you want to seek refuge under the nearest broom tree …
Yeah.
How about the line “Why can’t we bring life into the house of worship?”. Most recently uttered by Pastor Dave, first uttered by Nadab and Abihu. If the preached Word is not life in the house of worship maybe it is not the preached Word.
Scary thought that a congregation could recite the 12 that start for and ride the bench for a pro basketball team but not name the 12 disciples of Christ …
