Are you raising a pimpfant? Get ready because the new trend in dressing children is to dress them like gangstas, pimps, and Brittany Spears. You might be thinking, “It’s only clothing.” But there is an old cliché that many believe to be true, “Clothing makes the man.” And I think this holds true for women as well. So if a little boy dresses like a pimp or a gangster, or a little girl dresses like a prostitute, I wonder what type of image they will have of themselves as they begin to understand the meaning of those words. Here’s a pic of such clothing:

The scary part of this all is that we are not talking about poor, drugged out parents who are dressing their kids this way. No, they wouldn’t be able to afford infant and kids clothes that can be quite costly. No, these are affluent, “yoga moms” who are from the suburbs trying to be “cool” and “hip” by dressing their kids in pimpfant clothing. One woman noted:
Some onesies pay homage to bands (Metallica, the Ramones). A onesie Keller spotted had an off-color spin on the “Got Milk” slogan. Keller recalls a onesie featuring reggae legend Bob Marley smoking a joint.
Pretty soon they’re imagining fishnet onesies and expletives on kids shirts. The fact of the matter is that too many people are driven to buy on the basis of their culture. And so what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie put on their kids drive the buying market for kids clothing rather than sheer common sense, as noted by this statement:
The child born to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie caused a fashion sensation and a run on the tiny T she wore for her first photo shoot. Pictured on the cover of People magazine, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt wore a $42 shirt with the words “The Pots and Pans Band” in Gothic letters and a skull and crossbones. It promptly became a hot item at tot boutiques.
I hope moms and dads who love Christ and believe in the power of the Gospel will intentionally buy clothing that glorifies God. Having a little child wear a shirt with a bare midriff might seem cute, but it only makes sense that an infant who wears such clothing now, will eventually be a girl and a teenager who also has no problem wearing such clothing. But at that time, the motives will be quite different. I see it in the malls where teenage girls are already flashing their bodies to hormone crazed boys who want nothing more than to get that girl into a car to have sex with her. This is our age, and to say that clothing doesn’t matter is as naive as to believe that your son or daughter will care nothing about the opposite sex one day. As Paul writes in Ephesians 5:3: “But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.” And the reason this is the case because of verse 2: “And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” This is worth our intentionality in dressing our children.

I really don’t think these clothes are making a statement that there kids are gangsters and growing up to be ho’s. It’s meant to be for people that are into urban influenced fashion. People knowledgeable about urban fashion know it isn’t a gang thing. Pimpfants clothing stops at age 5. I think on very young children it’s just humorous. On older kids I think it raises some issues. What I am offended by is the provacative ho clothes at baby gap and old navy. Pimpfants has nothing revealing, only humorous slogans on a few of the items. The clothes themselves are not only descent but cute too. Pimp today is commonly used to reference style with no relationship to pimps and ho’s.
As for the pimpfant clothing. I know that we do not want to believe words make that much a difference. But they do. To wear a shirt that refers to the selling of women for sex, regardless of what the word currently means, is degrading to women and it is not God-glorifying. Also, the word ‘pimp’ still is used to describe the keeper and seller of prostitutes. If a baby is wearing this, and there is nothing wrong with that fact, then where do you draw the line? It seems like a slippery slope.
‘Humorous slogans’ is a vague term. At that point then, everything and anything can be humorous. How do we determine then what sort of humor affects the soul and what doesn’t?
I understand what you’re saying admin and fully respect your oppinion. I am a Christian. I just think if the clothes were called style-fants no one would even be talking about it. I guess I can see both sides of the coin.
