Why God, Why?

Why God, Why? Why would He do such a thing? How could He?  How could He be so…gracious? Did you think I would say cruel? That’s how too many people ask this question of God, when we should be asking how could God be so loving and so gracious. Because when you understand the power of the Gospel, you can’t help but ask this question.
Phil Johnson quotes John MacArthur’s reflection on 2 Corinthians 5:21. It summarizes well why we should ask the question, “Why God, why? Why should a God so great love a sinner like me this much?”:
“On the cross, God treated Christ as if He had committed all the sins of every sinner who would ever believe, so that He could treat believers as if they had lived Christ’s perfect life.”ÂÂ
