How to Listen to a Sermon
May 2nd, 2006 by admin
Most people think of Sermons as a “show me what you got” time. And usually, this means waiting for funny and moving stories that teach a person the how to’s of life, without any real desire to hear God’s Word exposited faithfully so that one might truly know how to live life. Thabiti Anyabwile from Capitol Hill Baptist Church writes an article that counters this idea, by talking about how to listen to an expositional sermon. If you are a person who hungers for God’s Word to be faithfully preached on Sunday, check out his essay.

The gist of the article you posted, Sam, reminds me of Richard Steele’s book _A Remedy for Wanderdering Thoughts in Worship_. Steele, a Puritan, published his _thoughts_ in 1673.
Haven’t dipped into that one for a while. Seems that in general the Puritans had a high regard for the preached Word.
