The Rebirth of Discerning Reader
Apr 26th, 2006 by admin
There used to be a website/store that I used regularly called Discerning Reader (I stopped using them a while ago and told many others as well). It was a great site that offered some great books with a good layout and reviews. But sadly, the more I used it, the more I heard some terrible stories about the guy who ran it. And then, the books went from being theologically sound books to theologically shaky to the theologically off the map books.  I guess the site has now changed owners as Tim Challies has bought it and turned into something totally new, a great resource for books. Now, if you want to buy a book, check out either the Wellspring book reviews site or this new site by Tim Challies.

Do you think this will work given the bad memories many have for the old DR?
I share your skepticism. For those who were directly burnt by the old DR, the new ownership may not be able to surmount bad feelings associated with the old moniker.
hey sam… how are you? remember a “won kwak” from rutgers? i hope you are well. it seems the Lord is using you well in your family and your church. i heard something about you guys seeking a relationship with SovGrace. awesome…
oh, fergot to comment on discerning reader… RS tried to burn me but i just wouldn’t let it happen. but i did receive lots of abusive language and absurd accusations of un-Xian behavior/attitudes.
I do remember you. We are thinking of that relationship with Sov Grace. Are you? Any way, all of the Lord’s blessings to you.
As for DR, there are many people who received the same treatment. I don’t think that will happen any more.
i concur with shua and timk…just hearing the name “Discerning Reader” was enough to bring a bad taste to my mouth…
Hey, Won, I think you have met my brother TomK at SG PC, T4G, and he was in Toms River recently.
tim KURTZ? if yes, wow, puny world. yes, your bro tom is a cool guy. during my week down at the pc in march (missiology module), he was so gracious in serving the visitors and “showing us the ropes.” are you a sovgrace guy/pastor as well?
