The Proverbs 31 Woman
Apr 13th, 2006 by admin
Too many people deem Proverbs 31 as a moral standard for women. WHile I think this woman is surely a woman who fears the Lord and is to be praised, it is a fallacy to think this is the only woman who fears the Lord and is to be praised. I hope women look at the heart of this woman, rather than her actions. She was a woman who wanted to live with all her might while she lived (Edwards Resolution #1).
Now if we took this woman as the paragon of biblical womanhood on the sheer basis of her actions, I would imgaine the Proverbs writer could have done the same for a man and it could have been something like this…
1) Wakes up 4 am everyday and sleeps at 12am. And even during those 4 hours of sleep, he’s praying to the Lord consciously!
2) Has a perfectly scuplted body.
3) Memorized the whole Bible.
4) Works 10 jobs, spends quality time with children, builds homes (literally).
5) Fasts 40 days regularly, and prays 24 hours a day regularly.
6) Never buys anything frivilous and always saves his money to be given to the poor. Dresses his family in animal hair occasionally and feeds the kids locusts for lunch.
7) Grooms himself to look presentable for his wife and others all the time.
Women are to fear the Lord and strive to live their lives to honor Him, even in the midst of brokenness. But so too men!

Hahaha…you forgot to add:
Prov. 31 does have a high standard and men should be held up to high standards too, but I believe the verse is uplifting the Godly women! I believe it reminds men that we need to praise God for his wife that has a noble character mentioned in Prov. 31. That men should not take for granted his wife that has a heart for God and tries to follow as best as they can. I agree with Pastor Sam that not all the actions can be filled and the heart is more the issue. I am single and hope to get married one day, and pray that God will bless me with a wife that does have a heart for Prov. 31 and that I can also have a heart for God for her. Prov. 31 is a good guide for me to look for that special one.
Thank you Pastor Sam, for this post, even though I am single, it really stirred me up!!!
